    Essential Insights

    1. Google plans to replace the Google Assistant with Gemini as the default voice assistant across all Android devices, including phones, Wear OS watches, and Android Auto headunits later this year.

    2. Users currently have the option to choose between Google Assistant and Gemini, but this choice will be removed, making Gemini the sole assistant by default.

    3. The transition to Gemini for Wear OS smartwatches may occur through a simple app update, enabling features like setting alarms and messaging contacts when connected to a compatible phone.

    4. A new app icon for Gemini has been discovered, indicating its eventual rollout on smartwatches, although no specific release timeline has been provided by Google.

Gemini Set to Replace Google Assistant on Wear OS Watches

Gemini, Google’s latest AI chatbot, will soon take over as the default assistant on all Android devices, including Wear OS smartwatches. This change means users will no longer have the choice between Google Assistant and Gemini. Instead, Gemini will streamline interactions across devices.

Currently, users can opt for either assistant. However, Google plans to make Gemini the only option later this year. This transition will include updates for Wear OS watches and Android Auto headunits. According to reports, the switch to Gemini on smartwatches may happen through a simple app update.

New code found in the Assistant app hints at how Gemini will operate on Wear OS. Users will activate Gemini by pressing the side button or saying “Hey Google” when their watch is awake. However, they must connect their smartwatch to a supported phone and enable Bluetooth first. This setup will allow users to engage with Gemini for tasks like setting alarms, timers, and messaging contacts.

Additionally, Gemini is expected to support many features that users enjoyed with the Google Assistant. However, it remains unclear if it will offer advanced integration with other Google apps on smartwatches.

A new icon for the Assistant app could also appear once Gemini becomes available on Wear OS devices. Despite eager anticipation, a definitive release date has not yet been announced.

Fans of smart technology look forward to Gemini’s feature-rich experience. This development reflects the growing innovation in smart cities and urban environments, offering users enhanced connectivity and convenience. How do you feel about switching to Gemini on your Wear OS watch?
