    Quick Takeaways

    1. Honda and Acura will allow owners of their EVs, Prologue and ZDX, to charge at Tesla’s Supercharger network starting in June 2024.
    2. The vehicles are equipped with CCS charging ports, necessitating the purchase of Honda-approved fast-charging adapters from dealerships.
    3. Owners will receive notifications via HondaLink and Acura EV apps when adapters are available and can find Supercharger locations through the apps.
    4. Honda has committed to adopting Tesla’s NACS standard and plans to release an EV model built with this technology by 2025.

    Bridging the Charging Gap

Beginning this June, Honda and Acura EV owners will benefit from access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network in North America. This development marks a crucial step in addressing charging accessibility for electric vehicle owners. Honda’s Prologue and Acura’s ZDX will enable customers to utilize these widely available fast-charging stations, fostering a more practical charging experience. Although these vehicles come with CCS charging ports, owners must purchase a fast-charging adapter. Consequently, Honda will provide updates through the HondaLink and Acura EV apps, ensuring customers can easily locate charging stations and purchase the necessary adapter. While Honda has not disclosed the pricing of these adapters, the anticipation around their availability highlights the demand for improved infrastructure in the EV landscape.

Furthermore, Honda’s agreement to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) signals a significant shift in the automotive industry. This decision, announced in 2023, will pave the way for a new EV model set to launch in 2025, built with the same charging technology as Tesla. Other automakers, including Ford and General Motors, have similarly joined forces with Tesla, indicating a trend toward standardization in EV charging. By embracing this shift, Honda and Acura aim to enhance the convenience of electric vehicle ownership. Ultimately, this collaboration could lead to widespread adoption of electric vehicles by easing one of the biggest concerns for potential owners: charging accessibility. This move not only promotes Honda and Acura’s commitment to sustainable transportation but also contributes positively to the collective human journey toward a greener future.
