    Summary Points

    1. End of Intel Era: macOS 26, or macOS Tahoe, will be the last version supporting Intel Macs, with full features and security updates until 2028.

    2. Transition to Apple Silicon: Since 2020, Apple has moved to its own powerful Apple Silicon chips, which outperform Intel processors in speed and energy efficiency.

    3. Developer Guidance: Apple is urging developers to prepare for the post-Intel landscape, ensuring a smooth transition for applications and users.

    4. Rosetta Support: Both macOS Tahoe and the subsequent macOS 27 will include Rosetta for compatibility, although its support will cease after version 27 for most applications, except legacy video games.

Apple’s recent announcement at WWDC marks a significant transition for Mac users. macOS 26, known as macOS Tahoe, will be the final version supporting Intel-powered Macs. This shift highlights the company’s move away from Intel processors, a path paved since the introduction of Apple Silicon in 2020.

While Tahoe will still deliver full access to features for Intel users, it also signals an expiration for these devices. By 2028, Intel Macs will no longer receive updates, leading to an inevitable retirement from the Apple ecosystem. However, Intel users can rest assured; they will continue to receive security updates for the next three years.

Apple’s proprietary ARM-based architecture offers several advantages over Intel’s x86 processors. Not only do Apple Silicon chips perform more operations, but they also consume less battery power. This efficiency leads to faster processing and longer usage times, benefiting end users.

During the Platform State of the Union segment aimed at app developers, Apple urged them to prepare for the post-Intel landscape. Both macOS 26 and the upcoming macOS 27 will incorporate Rosetta, enabling apps designed for x86 to run on ARM seamlessly. Developers can anticipate a smooth transition, making it easier for users to adapt.

Intel Macs that will support Tahoe include models like the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro and the 2020 27-inch iMac. These devices once represented cutting-edge technology, but as Apple continues to innovate, they will gradually fade from the spotlight.

Apple’s advancements signal not just a change in hardware but a leap in urban innovation and smart city technology. The push toward efficiency and performance fosters an environment ripe for new applications. With macOS Tahoe as a milestone, Apple reinforces its commitment to a future that prioritizes speed, sustainability, and user experience.
