NDMC Advances Renewable Energy and Smart Infrastructure

New Delhi is taking significant steps toward sustainability. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approved several impactful projects to enhance civic services. Among the highlights, the council green-lighted the procurement of 120 megawatts of renewable energy from NHPC Ltd at ₹4.62 per unit for 25 years. This initiative aims to support NDMC’s transition to green energy and meet peak electricity demand.

Additionally, the council allocated over ₹40 crore to upgrade electricity and water metering systems. A project costing ₹30.84 crore will replace faulty water meters with over 15,000 smart units. For electricity, ₹4.56 crore will improve monitoring and billing by upgrading old meters. According to the council, these changes will boost utility efficiency and provide residents with valuable real-time data.

Sanitation, Flood Management, and Cultural Enhancement Initiatives

The NDMC also prioritized flood preparedness and sanitation during its meeting. The council approved ₹70.44 crore to desilt Sunehari nullah at Lodhi Road, managed by the DMRC. Additionally, ₹5.20 crore was set aside for hydraulic high-pressure jetting machines, aimed at improving drainage maintenance ahead of the monsoon season.

To enhance hygiene during events, the council allocated ₹4.18 crore for mobile comfort stations and urinals in busy areas. Furthermore, the NDMC committed 1 percent of its annual budget to arts and culture. This fund will support exhibitions, cultural festivals, and community programs, marking a significant integration of art into public life.

These proposals align with the vision of “Viksit Bharat@2047,” reinforcing the NDMC’s commitment to future-ready urban governance and improved quality of life for residents.
