Revealed: America’s Fastest Internet Service Provider!

    Quick Takeaways

    1. Speed Dominance: AT&T Fiber has been named the fastest fixed internet provider in the U.S. by Ookla, with a median download speed of over 363 Mbps, marking three consecutive reports at the top.

    2. Average Speed Focus: The report measures average speeds experienced by subscribers, not necessarily the fastest plans offered by providers, highlighting variability in internet service performance.

    3. Competitive Landscape: Frontier Fiber and Verizon Fios closely follow AT&T Fiber, with speeds of 359 Mbps and a slight difference in Speed Score, emphasizing the competitive nature of the fiber internet market.

    4. Personalized Choice: Speed rankings shouldn’t be the sole factor when choosing an ISP; availability, local providers, and specific user needs are crucial for finding the best fit for individual circumstances.

    AT&T Fiber Takes the Lead

This week, Ookla released its Speedtest Connectivity Report for the first half of 2025. Excitingly, AT&T Fiber claimed the title of the fastest internet service provider in the United States. With a median download speed of just over 363 megabits per second, AT&T Fiber secured a Speed Score of 78.33. This score measures both download and upload speeds alongside latency, offering a comprehensive look at performance. AT&T Fiber has now topped the report for three consecutive times, demonstrating its consistency in delivering high-speed internet.

However, it is important to note that this report reflects average experiences across all plans, not just the fastest option available. Many factors, like connection type and local infrastructure, can influence actual speeds for individual users. Thus, what may work for one person might not be the best choice for someone else.

    Rival Providers Close Behind

Frontier Fiber comes in a close second, with a median download speed of 359 Mbps and a Speed Score of 78.30. This performance is notable, especially as Frontier is in the process of being acquired by Verizon, hinting at potential future enhancements. Verizon Fios takes the third spot, while cable providers like Cox, Xfinity, and Spectrum complete the list.

Although AT&T’s recent victory may grab attention, it doesn’t automatically make it the best choice for every customer. Availability varies widely across regions. Some areas may even have smaller or regional providers that better meet local needs. Therefore, while speed tests offer valuable insights, they should be just one of many factors considered when selecting an internet service provider.
