Progress Review of Smart City Projects

Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh recently assessed the progress of several Smart City initiatives in Karnal. He emphasized the importance of completing these projects on time, stating that agencies must adhere to deadlines. Officials who delay will face penalties, promoting accountability and efficiency.

Singh first inspected a newly built old-age home in Sector 32. This facility, with a cost exceeding Rs 10.10 crore, accommodates 128 residents in 43 rooms and eight dormitories. He urged the concerned department to transfer it to the Social Welfare Department promptly so eligible residents can benefit.

Next, Singh expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress at a community center under construction in Sector 32. He warned that further delays could incur penalties. Conversely, he noted that the complex in Sector 33, which includes a badminton hall, volleyball court, and digital library, was nearing completion. Built for over Rs 13.15 crore, it will feature various amenities and a 500-seat hall. The DC directed officials to expedite finishing touches for public access.

    Future Initiatives in the Pipeline

Singh also reviewed the elevated bridges project, invested at Rs 128 crore, set for completion by July 2026. He urged expedited construction to improve connectivity in the city. Additionally, he inspected a commercial complex at the old grain market, now 50 percent complete. This facility will offer amenities like two basement levels for parking, 34 shops per floor, and recreational zones.

The Deputy Commissioner reinforced the need for ongoing inspections to minimize public disruption during construction. As these projects progress, residents can look forward to enhanced quality of life and community engagement in Karnal.
