NASA astronaut Jonny Kim will discuss his recent mission aboard the International Space Station during a news conference. This event is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST on Friday, Dec. 19, from the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Viewers can watch the news conference live on NASA’s YouTube channel. The agency provides various streaming options, including social media platforms. For media representatives, those wishing to attend in person must contact the Johnson newsroom by 5 p.m. on Dec. 18.
Kim returned to Earth on Dec. 9, alongside Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky. During their eight-month mission, Kim logged an impressive 245 days as a flight engineer. Collectively, the crew completed 3,920 orbits of Earth, traveling nearly 104 million miles. They witnessed the arrival of nine spacecraft and the departure of six.
Throughout his mission, Kim engaged in numerous scientific investigations and technology demonstrations. For example, he studied bioprinted tissues in microgravity. This research aims to advance space-based tissue production, potentially benefiting patients on Earth.
Additionally, Kim evaluated remote control of multiple robots in space, a part of the Surface Avatar study. This technology could enhance robotic assistance for future exploration missions. Furthermore, he contributed to in-space manufacturing of DNA-mimicking nanomaterials. This innovation could improve drug delivery methods and support developments in therapeutics and regenerative medicine.
This mission underscores the vital role of space research in technology development. The findings from Kim’s contributions may lead to breakthroughs that enhance quality of life on Earth. For more insights on International Space Station research and operations, visit NASA’s official website.
