    Summary Points

    1. Subaru unveils the Getaway, its first three-row electric SUV, built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, with 420 horsepower and all-wheel drive.
    2. The vehicle offers over 300 miles of range, a 0-60 mph time under five seconds, and fast-charging capabilities with an estimated 150kW system.
    3. Inside, it features a 14-inch touchscreen, seating for up to seven, outdoor-focused features like roof rails, and versatile cargo space—surpassing some competitors.
    4. Available late 2026, the Getaway targets large families transitioning to EVs, with pricing details to be revealed closer to its launch.

Subaru debuted its first three-row electric SUV, called the Getaway, at the New York International Auto Show. This new model marks a big step forward for the automaker in urban mobility and electric vehicle tech. The Getaway is built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, which it shares with the 2027 Highlander EV.

Initially, all models will feature Subaru’s famous all-wheel drive and 420 horsepower. The SUV will include a NACS-compatible charging port, making it easy to use many fast chargers. However, charging speed is modest, with an estimated 150kW system that can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The first models will arrive late this year. These will have a 95.8kWh battery, offering over 300 miles of range on a single charge. With a zero-to-60 time of under five seconds, it’s quick enough for city streets and longer trips. Additionally, Subaru plans a smaller 77kWh battery version early next year, with slightly less range but more options for urban drivers.

The Getaway stands out with 8.3 inches of ground clearance. This helps it navigate city streets and rougher roads alike. It comes equipped with features like Snow/Dirt, Deep Snow/Mud, and Tow modes. Its towing capacity reaches up to 3,500 pounds, ideal for urban adventures and outdoor gear.

Inside, the SUV offers space for seven people with a second-row bench, or six with captain’s chairs. The large 14-inch touchscreen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. Drivers also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for easy control.

The Getaway’s design emphasizes outdoor activity. Most trims include roof rails, and customers can choose 19- or 20-inch wheels. Cargo space is impressive, with up to 45.6 cubic feet when folding down the third row — more than some comparable models, like the Kia EV 9.

Subaru also includes comfort features such as heated front seats, with options to upgrade to ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel. Its off-road protections and versatile features make it suitable for city life and outdoor escapes alike.

While similar to Toyota’s Highlander EV, the Getaway offers a practical choice for families who want to switch to electric vehicles. As cities grow smarter and more connected, vehicles like this help promote cleaner, more efficient urban living. They support the shift toward smarter, greener cities by combining practicality with innovative technology.
