    Summary Points

    1. Spotify now offers universal video toggles, allowing users to turn off videos entirely, including music videos, podcasts, and artist clips.
    2. Video controls are accessible under Settings > Content and display, and can be applied across all platforms and for family accounts.
    3. The platform has integrated video features gradually since 2018, including Canvas loops, podcasts, music videos, and artist clips.
    4. Over 70% of users believe more video content enhances their experience, but Spotify still provides options for users who prefer a simpler, music-only app.

Spotify has introduced a new feature that lets users turn off all video content. This update aims to improve the listening experience for those who prefer pure audio. As streaming services add more video elements, some users find it distracting. Therefore, Spotify’s universal video toggles provide a solution.

First, the new controls are easy to access. You can find them under Settings > Content and display. Once set, your preferences apply across all devices—smartphones, tablets, and desktops. Family account managers can also manage video settings for everyone on the plan, making it simple to customize for a household.

For years, Spotify has added video features. In 2018, Canvas videos appeared on the Now Playing screen. Then, during the pandemic in 2020, the platform launched video podcasts. Most recently, in 2024, music videos arrived, mainly outside the U.S. Additionally, artist clips allow creators to send short, promotional messages directly to fans.

Spotify’s move to include these features was driven by user feedback. The company reports that more than 70 percent of users want more video content to improve their experience. However, recognizing that not everyone enjoys videos while listening, Spotify now provides the option to disable them entirely.

This update aligns with broader tech trends, such as smart cities and urban innovation, which focus on user-friendly and personalized experiences. By offering greater control, Spotify caters to diverse preferences, helping users enjoy their music in a way that feels most comfortable.
