    Essential Insights

    1. You can now create imaginative worlds in Project Genie based on real U.S. locations using Street View imagery.
    2. Choose from various styles like “Desert Sands,” “Stone Age,” or “Ocean World” to customize your world’s appearance.
    3. Describe your character (e.g., animal, hero, monster), and Genie will generate a world with real-world starting points linked to Street View.
    4. This new feature is available now for Google AI Ultra subscribers and is expanding to more locations and users over time.

    Creating Real-World Inspired Fiction

With Project Genie, users can now build worlds based on actual places. By simply choosing a location on the Maps pin, you can select a location in the U.S. and customize the environment style. Options include “Desert Sands,” “Stone Age,” and more. This feature connects imaginative worlds to real-world imagery, making stories more relatable. As a result, creators can ground their fantasies in familiar settings. This ability helps bridge the gap between reality and imagination, giving users more control over their virtual environments.

Advanced Technology that Brings Places to Life

Street View imagery, powered by Maps Imagery Grounding technology, plays a key role in this feature. It uses real-world visuals to enhance digital worlds generated by AI. For example, you can explore underwater scenes around the Golden Gate Bridge or see vintage scenes of the Fort Worth Stockyards in the 1920s. This technology creates immersive experiences, making virtual worlds feel more authentic. However, because it’s currently limited to U.S. locations, users outside the U.S. may need to wait for broader access.

    Adoption and Future Improvements

The new capabilities are available now for Google AI Ultra $200 subscribers worldwide. Since Project Genie is still experimental, developers continuously update it to improve detail and accuracy. They plan to expand Street View access to more areas over time, opening more possibilities for creativity. Still, some limitations remain, like regional availability and refining imagery. Nonetheless, this tool offers a promising way to connect real environments with virtual storytelling, inspiring more immersive digital worlds.
