    2. Over 600 employees now work at its local unit, making it prominent.
    3. The company aims to create 5,000 new local jobs soon.
    4. This move follows recent regulatory penalties and tensions with authorities.

PDD’s Bold Re-entry into China’s “City of the Future”

After facing a tough regulatory battle and a record fine, PDD Holdings is shifting its focus. The company operates popular online marketplaces, Temu and Pinduoduo. Recently, it doubled down on its investment in Xiongan New Area—an area dubbed China’s “city of the future.” This move marks a significant change. It comes months after the company was penalized for food safety violations and accusations of hindering enforcement actions. Despite these setbacks, PDD is making a strong comeback.

By the end of June, PDD had over 600 employees in Xiongan. The company is now the largest private internet firm in the development zone. These employees work in various roles, including data analysis, quality control, and operations. The company also registered a new entity in Xiongan in late May. It invested about 73.7 million dollars to support its development plans. Additionally, PDD launched a hiring campaign, aiming to create over 5,000 jobs locally. Already, 150 employees have started working there, mainly from nearby regions. This move aligns with the government’s plan to turn Xiongan into a hub for innovation and regional growth.

Executives from PDD met officials and signed agreements to strengthen their commitment. The company also purchased an office building in Xiongan, planning to relocate staff by the end of July. These steps show that PDD remains dedicated to integrating into the area’s development. This renewed focus raises questions about the company’s long-term strategy. Many see it as a way to regain trust and demonstrate resilience. Overall, PDD’s actions suggest it views Xiongan as vital for future growth and stability, despite past challenges.
