Over time, these fast plants remain taller, even after hundreds of years, but the native, slow-growing plants do not fully rebound without intervention.

    Restoration Needs Thoughtful Planning for Long-Term Benefits

    Today’s restoration efforts often skip slow, native plants because they take longer to grow back. Instead, they focus on quick-growing species to make the land look green fast. This creates a different kind of ecosystem—less diverse and less like the original. Experts suggest that restoring older grasslands requires planting slow, native species that can survive and thrive long-term. Although this approach may take patience, it promises a healthier and more authentic landscape. Ultimately, understanding plant traits helps us make smarter decisions for land recovery and the global human journey toward harmony with nature.
