Cisco Empowers Service Providers to Reimagine Networks for AI

San Jose, CA — Cisco, a leading name in networking and security, has unveiled new solutions aimed at transforming how service providers deliver artificial intelligence (AI) connectivity. This move comes as service providers are poised to become vital players in managing AI data flow across networks.

Firstly, these solutions allow service providers to address the growing volume and variety of data generated by AI applications. With Cisco’s innovations, providers can not only manage this data surge but also monetize the services that support AI traffic. Cisco highlights the advancement of its Silicon One technology. This new range of devices offers the flexibility needed for networks that support AI services.

Furthermore, AI applications create vast amounts of data that require quick processing near users. This demand calls for improved access speeds, enhanced service performance, resilient operations, and bolstered data security. In response, Cisco is introducing Cisco Agile Services Networking. This architecture paves the way for service providers to monetize assured services in AI connectivity.

"The AI revolution is a massive potential tailwind for service providers," said Jeetu Patel, Cisco’s executive vice president and chief product officer. He emphasized that AI will lead to a significant influx of digital workers who will constantly interact and collaborate. Cisco’s Agile Services Networking serves as a blueprint for providers eager to meet the increasing demand for high-bandwidth, secure, and energy-efficient connectivity.

Moreover, service providers occupy a unique space in the AI ecosystem. They manage the networks linking where AI data is produced to where it is used. Additionally, they oversee the data centers that process vast datasets for AI training and inference.

Cisco’s architecture simplifies networking by converging various layers and services. This not only reduces complexity but also ensures resilient networks powered by AI automation and observability. In doing so, service providers can enhance service delivery while monetizing offerings closer to their end-users.

    Key innovations include:

    • Cisco Silicon One systems and platforms: New additions, like the Cisco 8000 series, enhance access, edge, and metro networks. They provide consistent control and sustainability in network construction.

    • Cisco coherent pluggable optics: New 400G ultra long-haul optics enable connections up to 3,000 kilometers without traditional transponders. This advancement helps reduce energy use by converging IP and optical layers.

    • Network automation and assurance features: Tools like Cisco Crosswork Network Automation leverage predictive AI technology. They to streamline network capacity planning and provide operators with comprehensive insights into their infrastructure.

Together, these innovations equip service providers to evolve their networks and create new services. Notably, Agile Services Networking promotes energy efficiency. One use case involving the Cisco 8000 series is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 324 metric tons over its lifetime compared to traditional systems.

Cisco’s first Silicon One-powered 8000 series is available now. Additional models are set to ship in the spring and summer of 2025. Similarly, the new coherent pluggable optics will debut in spring 2025.
