FRAMINGHAM, Mass. & NEW ORLEANS — Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leader in energy solutions, is bringing smart technology to the streets of New Orleans. The company received approval for a pilot project aimed at modernizing the city’s lighting infrastructure.

In this project, Ameresco will retrofit 56 existing streetlight fixtures near the Superdome with energy-efficient LED bulbs and advanced smart city technology. The heart of the system lies in Ubicquia’s UbiCell® lighting management system, which includes 47 UbiCells® and 16 UbiHub® devices. Additionally, Ameresco will utilize TerraGo’s Smart City operations software to enhance data management.

Moreover, this project aims to improve public safety by providing real-time analytics on vehicle and pedestrian movement through camera monitoring systems. As a result, city officials believe they can significantly boost safety during major events, which attract thousands of visitors.

"This pilot program will serve as a blueprint for future implementations across the city,” said Gilbert Montaño, Chief Administrative Officer for New Orleans. “We want to ensure our city is safe and accessible for everyone.”

Ameresco brings substantial experience to this initiative, having implemented smart controls on over 62% of its 600,000-plus LED streetlights nationwide. This pilot project marks a critical step toward broader advancements in urban technology for New Orleans.

Ameresco’s collaboration with partners like Legacy Professional Services and AllStar Electric emphasizes its commitment to innovative solutions. This project not only enhances energy efficiency but also represents a significant opportunity for urban innovation.

Louis Maltezos, President of Ameresco’s Central & Western USA, Canada Regions, stated, "Smart cities are the cities of the future, and this pilot project will showcase innovative solutions that boost energy efficiency and public safety."

The successful execution of this pilot might lead to city-wide expansion, making New Orleans a model for other metropolitan areas seeking to adopt smart technologies. With its integrated approach, Ameresco aims to address modern urban challenges effectively, offering solutions that foster more connected and sustainable cities.
