Android 16 Starts Rolling Out to Nothing Phones

Nothing Phone 3 owners can rejoice. The highly anticipated Android 16 update is now available. This update arrives with Nothing OS 4.0, which incorporates Google’s latest mobile software and introduces numerous UI enhancements.

The new operating system promises a smoother and faster experience. Users can expect “faster responses, cleaner visuals, and smoother interactions.” Importantly, app transitions, the notification shade, and gestures have all received a redesign, ensuring sharper tactility and depth. This upgrade allows for a more intuitive user experience.

Additionally, Nothing has redesigned its first-party icons. The new icons feature a cleaner, minimal style, contributing to a balanced and modern home screen. Status bar icons now reflect Android 16’s aesthetics, enhancing overall cohesion. Users will also appreciate the new lock-screen clocks and an “extra dark mode,” which is especially beneficial for nighttime reading.

Another key feature, the Glyph Interface, also sees improvements. Glyph Progress now works seamlessly with Android 16’s Live Updates. Users can track rides, deliveries, and timers directly on their screens through the Glyph Interface.

Although the update is currently available for Nothing Phone 3 users, owners of other Nothing models will need to be patient. The rollout for those devices will begin over the coming weeks. Other devices from the recently spun-off CMF brand will receive the update by the end of 2025, while Phone 3a Lite owners will have to wait until early next year.

As smart cities evolve, such updates demonstrate the importance of urban innovation. Enhanced mobile experiences can improve connectivity and efficiency in urban areas, paving the way for smarter living.
