Apple has launched its new Emoji Game exclusively for News+ subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, just in time for World Emoji Day. The game is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS 15.4 or later.
Initially announced during WWDC this year, the Emoji Game offers a fun twist on traditional word games. Players guess words and phrases by filling in missing letters with emojis. For example, if the letters for “apple” are absent in “pineapple,” users must select the “apple” emoji to complete the word. Similarly, for the phrase “the night is young,” players can use the baby emoji to fill in “young.”
The game features standard emojis, but it also includes custom emojis known as Genmoji, created by Apple Intelligence. Each game round consists of three phrases that need completion. If players require hints, they can reveal clues at the cost of one of their limited moves.
Subscribers can find this game in the Puzzles section of the Apple News app. Later this year, the game will transition to the upcoming Apple Games app, enhancing its accessibility and overall experience. A News+ subscription costs $13 per month and offers access to a broad range of magazines, newspapers, audio stories, and daily puzzles.
With the Emoji Game, Apple not only caters to its audience’s love for emojis but also adds another layer of engagement to its subscription services. Players not only enhance their vocabulary but also enjoy a fresh way to interact with digital communication. This move reflects Apple’s commitment to innovation in the gaming space while keeping its user base entertained and engaged.
