Apple’s New Vision Pro Features M5 Chip, Dual Knit Band, Stays at $3,499
Apple has unveiled an upgraded Vision Pro headset, featuring the new M5 chip. This advancement boosts performance and capabilities compared to the previous model, which utilized the M2 chip.
The M5 chip includes a powerful 10-core GPU, enhancing graphics quality for developers. As a result, users can expect improved lighting and textures in games, making experiences more immersive. Additionally, the new headset renders 10% more pixels on its micro-OLED displays, delivering sharper visuals.
While the price remains steep at $3,499 for the 256GB model, the introduction of the Dual Knit Band adds value. This new band offers a top strap for extra security and comfort. Existing users can purchase the band separately for $99.
Battery life also sees improvement. Apple claims the M5 Vision Pro supports up to two and a half hours of typical use and three hours of video playback. In contrast, the original model provided only two hours of general usage.
Apple plans future innovations in the augmented reality space, reportedly shifting focus toward smart glasses. These devices aim to offer unique features, including models without displays. The Vision Pro aims at developers, and a broader range of content will determine its success among consumers.
Pre-orders for the M5 Vision Pro are open now, with shipping set to begin on October 22. The headset represents Apple’s ongoing commitment to innovation, even as it faces criticism for its high price tag.
