Mouser Ships STMicroelectronics STM32N6 Edge AI Microcontrollers for Automotive and Robotics

Mouser Electronics, an authorized global distributor, recently announced the availability of the new STM32N6 microcontroller from STMicroelectronics. This high-performance MCU marks a significant advancement in the STM32 family.

The STM32N6 is optimized for edge-intensive artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. Accordingly, it targets sectors such as automotive, robotics, smart industry, healthcare, and smart homes. The introduction of this microcontroller promises enhanced capabilities for edge devices, which increasingly rely on AI.

Importantly, the STM32N6 features ST’s unique Neural-ART Accelerator. This hardware specifically enables embedded inference, providing a staggering 600 times more machine-learning performance than previous high-end models. Therefore, developers can expect superior AI functionality with lower energy consumption.

Transitioning to specifications, the Neural-ART Accelerator operates at a frequency of 1 GHz. It provides 600 giga-operations per second (GOPS) and averages three tera-operations per second (TOPS). Consequently, this performance allows complex machine learning tasks to run efficiently on a microcontroller.

Moreover, the STM32N6 employs a Cortex-M55 MCU running at 800 MHz. This configuration, along with 4.2 MB of embedded RAM and a NeoChrom GPU, supports various applications. Notably, the MCU can handle computer vision, audio processing, and sound analysis. Therefore, it opens new possibilities in both consumer and industrial markets.

In addition to its robust computing capabilities, the STM32N6 is compact. This small silicon package suits embedded systems and wearables perfectly.

To support its development, Mouser offers the STM32N6570-DK discovery kit. This comprehensive platform allows users to evaluate the MCU effectively. The kit includes essential features such as USB Type-C, Octo-SPI flash memory, and a camera module. Consequently, it provides an excellent resource for developers seeking to innovate with this technology.

With the STM32N6, Mouser aims to empower engineers and developers across multiple industries. The combination of cutting-edge technology and ease of use enhances the potential for AI-driven applications.
