    Essential Insights

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR:

    1. A YouTuber is live-testing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by manually folding it with a goal of reaching 200,000 folds.

    2. The device has already withstood over 113,000 folds, showcasing impressive durability, with Samsung rating it for up to 500,000 under ideal conditions.

    3. After 100,000 folds, minor issues arose, such as a crackling sound, but the phone’s display and functionality remained intact.

    4. Enhanced materials like thicker Ultra Thin Glass and high-strength adhesives suggest the Fold 7 is likely to withstand the YouTuber’s extreme test in real-world conditions.

A Korean tech YouTuber is currently testing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in an unusual way. They are folding and unfolding the device live on YouTube, aiming for an impressive 200,000 folds. So far, the count has surpassed 113,000 folds, and the YouTuber remains focused.

Samsung rates the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s OLED display for up to 500,000 folds under ideal conditions. However, achieving that number manually will likely take more than a week—and quite a bit of patience. The YouTuber pauses at key milestones to assess the device’s condition. At 95,000 folds, everything appeared normal. The colors remained vibrant and the touch sensitivity worked well.

At 100,000 folds, a slight crackling noise emerged during use. Despite this, the display functioned without flickering, showcasing Samsung’s innovative design. By 105,000 folds, the screen was still fully operational, although the crease had grown deeper.

Samsung’s use of a 50% thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) layer enhances shock absorption. A new adhesive binds the OLED layers, boasting four times better recovery performance than earlier models. Additionally, a high-strength titanium plate supports the screen. These advancements suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is built to last, even under extreme conditions.

While the YouTuber conducts the test outside a lab, this method provides valuable insights into how repeated folding affects the device over time. Viewers can still tune in to witness the durability test unfold in real time. As urban landscapes become smarter, innovations like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 showcase the potential of technology to withstand the rigors of daily life.
