    Quick Takeaways

    1. Google is now rolling out end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Gmail on Android and iOS for enterprise users, allowing secure email composition and reading within the app without extra tools.
    2. The new feature extends Google’s client-side encryption, enabling encrypted messages to appear seamlessly in recipients’ inboxes, whether they use the app or browser.
    3. E2EE can be enabled via the Admin Console, requiring an admin to turn on Android and iOS clients; users activate encryption by clicking the lock icon before sending.
    4. E2EE is immediately available for certain domains, with additional security features accessible through specific add-ons for organizations handling sensitive data.

Google has announced a new security feature for Gmail, making messaging safer for enterprise users. Starting now, end-to-end encryption (E2EE) is available on Gmail for Android and iOS devices. This means that emails sent within a business or organization are now better protected from unauthorized access.

The update is a big step for Google, especially for companies concerned about data privacy. With E2EE, only the sender and recipient can read the contents of an email. Google explains that this new feature combines top-level security with ease of use. Eligible users can compose and read encrypted emails right within the Gmail app. They do not need extra software or portals to stay protected.

This development builds on Google’s client-side encryption (CSE) technology, launched over a year ago on the web. Now, mobile users get the same high level of security. When a user sends an encrypted message, it appears like a normal email in the recipient’s inbox. Even if they don’t use the Gmail app, they can still read and reply securely through their browser.

The new encryption is designed to be simple. Admins must turn on the feature in the Admin Console first. When composing an email, users need to click a lock icon and select the encryption option. Attachments can be added as usual without extra steps.

E2EE is now available for enterprise customers using the Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. To fully activate the feature, organizations might need advanced security tools called Assured Controls or Assured Controls Plus. These tools help businesses that handle sensitive information stay compliant and protected.

This update highlights how cities and businesses can benefit from smarter, more secure communication systems. Secure email helps protect sensitive data, which is vital for smart city projects, urban innovation, and digital growth. As technology advances, such tools support a safer, more connected future for everyone.
