    Quick Takeaways

    1. Legacy Preservation: Hideo Kojima has created a USB stick filled with game ideas, serving as a "will" to ensure Kojima Productions continues after his passing.

    2. Pandemic Reflection: The initiative stems from a newfound awareness of mortality during the pandemic; Kojima recognizes he has limited years left for active development.

    3. Future Concepts: While specific ideas on the USB remain unknown, Kojima has teased innovative concepts, including memory-based gameplay and real-time aging mechanics.

    4. Creative Concerns: Kojima fears for Kojima Productions’ future if he’s no longer involved, emphasizing a desire for the studio to innovate beyond existing IPs.

Hideo Kojima Leaves Behind Legacy of Ideas

Iconic video game creator Hideo Kojima recently revealed an intriguing plan: he has left a USB stick filled with game concepts for his team to explore after his death. In an interview with Edge Magazine, which VGC reported, Kojima referred to this initiative as "kind of like a will." He hopes it ensures that Kojima Productions continues innovating in the gaming world.

Kojima, 61, stated that the COVID-19 pandemic prompted him to think about his legacy. He explained, "Until then, I didn’t think I was old. I assumed I would create for as long as I live." Although he feels healthy, he acknowledges that he has about ten active years left in development.

Worry not—Kojima is not planning to exit anytime soon. However, he expressed concern for what might happen to his company once he is gone. He stated, "This is a fear for me: what happens to Kojima Productions after I’m gone?" He wants his team to do more than just manage existing intellectual properties.

While details about the USB stick’s contents remain under wraps, Kojima recently shared some bizarre game concepts. One idea involves a character who forgets essential skills if players take breaks, highlighting a unique perspective on time management in gaming. Another intriguing concept encompasses an entire lifetime, along with a real-time mechanic for creating wine or cheese.

Kojima’s whimsical vision extends even to Death Stranding 2. He initially considered a feature where the protagonist’s beard would grow over time but scrapped it to maintain actor Norman Reedus’s on-screen image.

By leaving behind these ideas, Kojima not only ensures continuity for his studio but also inspires future creators. His legacy may spark innovations that redefine the gaming landscape for years to come.
