    Quick Takeaways

    1. The Google Pixel 9a features a repair-friendly design, earning a reparability rating of 7.5/10 based on a recent teardown by PBKreviews.

    2. While accessing the battery is relatively straightforward, its removal is complicated due to strong adhesive, requiring additional tools like isopropanol for a successful extraction.

    3. The Pixel 9a’s screen is designed for quick replacement; it can be removed from the front without needing to take off the back panel, streamlining repair processes.

    4. The phone utilizes a durable plastic back that, while less premium than glass, enhances overall durability and ease of serviceability.

Pixel 9a Teardown Surprises Enthusiasts Ahead of Release

Despite the Pixel 9a not yet being available for purchase, excitement grows as early teardown videos circulate online. The budget-friendly smartphone, officially announced last month, will hit retail on April 10. Meanwhile, a YouTube channel called PBKreviews offers a sneak peek, showcasing the device’s internals and design choices.

The teardown reveals a repairable design, earning a respectable 7.5 out of 10 for repairability. The back panel, made from durable plastic, detaches easily with some heat. Although it may lack the premium feel of glass, the sturdiness offers an advantage for those concerned about durability.

Once opened, viewers can see the motherboard cover, which conceals critical components such as the wireless charging and NFC coils. Removing this cover requires careful work, as it involves 16 tiny screws. However, keeping track of these screws makes the process manageable.

The Pixel 9a features its largest battery yet. Getting to the battery is straightforward. The real challenge comes when trying to remove it due to strong adhesive. Fortunately, a little isopropanol can assist in loosening it.

One impressive design choice allows for easier screen replacements. Instead of accessing the screen from the back, users can disconnect it from the front, making repairs quicker and more efficient. The intentional design of microphone holes also prevents damage from accidental tool use.

The early insights into the Pixel 9a suggest that Google prioritizes user-friendliness and accessibility in its repair process. As the launch date approaches, it becomes clear that the Pixel 9a offers valuable features at an affordable price, appealing to a wide range of consumers.

Although enthusiasts can speculate about what caused previous delays, the excitement around this phone’s features and repairability cannot be denied. The Pixel 9a may just become a strong contender in the budget smartphone market.
