    Fast Facts

    1. Revolutionizing Access: qBraid offers a user-friendly platform that connects over 20,000 users globally to quantum computing resources, significantly lowering barriers for newcomers to quantum programming.

    2. Rapid Onboarding: Users can start coding on quantum devices within minutes, eliminating weeks of setup, fostering innovation, and increasing adoption across diverse sectors.

    3. Comprehensive Ecosystem: The platform integrates with top quantum hardware and software providers, allowing seamless development of applications in areas like AI, drug discovery, and finance.

    4. Democratizing Quantum Knowledge: qBraid also emphasizes education through its qBook learning platform, aiming to create a skilled quantum workforce and expand access to quantum technologies worldwide.

Startup Provides a Nontechnical Gateway to Quantum Computing

MIT News recently highlighted a groundbreaking startup, qBraid, which simplifies access to quantum computing. Founded by Kanav Setia and Jason Necaise, the company aims to make quantum programming user-friendly. As a result, qBraid offers a cloud-based platform that connects users to major quantum devices from companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, and IBM.

Users can log in, and in just a few clicks, start coding. Setia emphasizes the platform’s mission: “We take you from not knowing anything about quantum computing to running your first program in less than 10 minutes.” This streamlined approach has attracted over 20,000 users from 120 countries since its inception in June 2020.

The founders identified a persistent issue in the quantum computing community. Typically, newcomers faced long and complicated setups before even beginning to code. Setia recalls his own experience in an applied quantum computing class, which sparked the idea for qBraid. He envisioned “a software sandbox in the cloud” where programming could begin immediately.

Support from MIT’s Sandbox Innovation Fund and the delta v summer startup accelerator helped them refine their concept. Setia notes, “Both programs provided us with strong mentorship.” This guidance proved invaluable as they tackled the challenging journey of startup development.

Existing users now benefit from qBraid’s pre-installed software and version control, allowing them to create applications without fearing unexpected changes. The addition of qBook, an interactive learning platform, further enriches the experience, enabling users to run and modify code seamlessly across devices.

QBraids’ diverse user base includes individuals from developing nations who code from their smartphones, highlighting the platform’s accessibility. As demand grows, qBraid progresses towards creating qBraid-OS, a quantum operating system utilized by leading quantum firms.

Their platform fosters innovation across various fields. Users are actively building applications in AI, drug discovery, and cybersecurity. With fewer than 1,000 experts in quantum programming reported in 2018, qBraid’s model democratizes access for aspiring developers.

Setia concludes that qBraid not only simplifies the coding process but also contributes to the growth of the quantum workforce. By breaking down barriers, they empower users to engage with cutting-edge technology. Thus, qBraid paves the way for a future where quantum computing becomes a critical driver of innovation.
