To prepare the material for SHERLOC, the team implemented the smooshing technique. Using the rover’s contact sensor, they compacted the tailings into a flat, stable area. This approach allowed for better spectral scans.

    The results were impressive. SHERLOC detected key minerals, including serpentine, essential for astrobiological studies.
