    Quick Takeaways

    1. Exceptional Audio Quality: The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 delivers balanced, detailed sound with upgraded audio technology, providing an immersive listening experience across various music genres.

    2. Enhanced Active Noise Cancellation: With improved ANC via eight microphones, the Px7 S3 shows noticeable advancements but still falls short compared to top competitors like Bose and Sony.

    3. Sophisticated Design and Comfort: The updated design refines the fit and aesthetics, but the lack of significant visual changes across models may leave some wanting more innovation.

    4. High Price and Basic Features: Priced at $449, the Px7 S3 is more expensive than previous models and lacks advanced features that other brands offer, though its impressive sound may justify the cost for many users.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3: A Sonic Powerhouse with Minor Upgrades

Bowers & Wilkins continues to impress with its latest release, the Px7 S3 headphones. Priced at $449, these over-ear headphones build on the success of their predecessors. Transitioning from the Px7 and Px8, the S3 showcases exceptional audio performance.

Firstly, the Px7 S3 features upgraded hardware. The headphones utilize 40mm bio-cellulose drivers and discrete headphone amplifiers. Consequently, users enjoy clear, detailed sound, even in complex musical pieces. For instance, I noticed subtle percussion details in Turnstile’s “DULL” that eluded other models.

Next, active noise cancellation (ANC) sees improvement as well. With eight microphones, the ANC offers superior capability compared to previous versions. While it still does not rival leaders like Bose, users will notice a reduction in ambient noise.

Despite these enhancements, some aspects remain unchanged. The design feels familiar, with only slight refinements. Notably, this includes a slimmer headband and ear cups for enhanced comfort. However, the controls have shifted. Now located on the narrower transition between the headband and ear cups, they may prove more challenging to access.

Battery life stands out as another strength. Bowers & Wilkins claims up to 30 hours per charge. In practical use, I found that I often exceeded this estimate, highlighting the company’s decent battery management.

However, the price raises some eyebrows. A $50 increase might deter budget-conscious buyers. Furthermore, the lack of advanced features, such as automatic pausing when speaking or spatial audio, leads to questions about value.

Overall, while the Px7 S3 offers minor design tweaks, the essence of what makes Bowers & Wilkins appealing remains intact. With stellar sound quality and improved ANC, these headphones may still satisfy audiophiles. Yet, a more significant overhaul in design and features could elevate future models even further.
