    2. Strong Metrics: The city scored 88 out of 100 for tech infrastructure and 82 for its job market, with 643 tech jobs advertised per 10,000 people.

    4. Comparative Highlights: While Atlanta excels overall, San Francisco leads in environmental metrics, and Oakland has the highest tech job density, emphasizing varying strengths among cities.

    Atlanta Leads the Pack

Atlanta shines as the top U.S. city for a “smart city future,” according to ProptechOS’ 2025 Smart City Index. Notably, Atlanta improved significantly, climbing from 10th place last year. It achieved an impressive score of 88 out of 100 for tech infrastructure. Additionally, the city scored 82 for its tech job market, showcasing 643 tech jobs per 10,000 residents. This indicates robust opportunities for local job seekers.

Moreover, Atlanta ranks fourth for internet speeds among major U.S. cities. The city also boasts a high number of companies focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence. Notably, Atlanta joined the White House’s Smart Cities Initiative in 2015. Initiatives like the North Avenue Smart Corridor Project enhance traffic management and environmental sustainability.

    Other Notable Cities

While Atlanta stands out, other cities show promise in various categories. San Francisco excels in environmental metrics. Its high number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and LEED-certified buildings contribute to this achievement. Meanwhile, Oakland leads in tech jobs, with 889 positions per 10,000 people, representing about 10% of its population.

Internationally, Paris tops the European list, followed closely by Stockholm, Amsterdam, Munich, and Lisbon. These cities exemplify advancements in tech infrastructure and quality of life. Collectively, they illuminate the pathway toward a more connected and sustainable urban future.
