Her GoFundMe campaign aimed to assist with funeral expenses, as her children made arrangements during this difficult time. Tragically, she had lost her wife, Jennell Jaquays, in 2024 due to complications from Guillain–Barré syndrome.

    Heineman’s legacy began in 1980 when she won the Atari 2600 Space Invaders championship. At just 16, she joined Avalon Hill Games as a programmer. In 1983, she co-founded Interplay, initially called Interplay Productions, alongside Brian Fargo and others. Under her guidance, the company produced iconic titles, including The Bard’s Tale III: Thief of Fate.

    In 1999, she established Contraband Entertainment, showcasing her innovative spirit. The company created notable Mac OS ports for popular games like Aliens vs. Predator and Baldur’s Gate II. Heineman also held significant roles at Electronic Arts, Ubisoft Toronto, and Sony Computer Entertainment America.

    Her passing leaves a void in the tech community, yet her impact will continue to inspire future generations. As cities become smarter and more innovative, the creativity and leadership of pioneers like Heineman pave the way for advancements in technology and gaming.
