Leading the Smart City Charge
The Smart City Mission is gaining momentum in northern India. Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh lead the way in project completion and fund utilization. As of July 31, 2025, these regions are making significant strides toward sustainable urban growth.
Punjab stands out with a substantial investment of Rs 485.66 crore in central assistance. Remarkably, Rs 417.21 crore has been effectively utilized. Out of 204 sanctioned projects, 89 have already been completed. Amritsar and Jalandhar are transforming with upgraded infrastructure, transport systems, and public spaces. This change reflects a commitment to long-term urban renewal.
Haryana has demonstrated effective fund management. The state claimed Rs 921.5 crore against a total of Rs 979.77 crore sanctioned. With 161 projects worth Rs 1,979.77 crore, 137 have already been completed. Faridabad and Karnal highlight the Smart City Mission’s positive impact. Improvements in road connectivity and green spaces enhance residents’ quality of life.
Innovative Solutions in the Hills
Himachal Pradesh showcases a high project completion rate. The state has fully utilized its Rs 954.73 crore claim. Out of 291 sanctioned projects, an impressive 266 are complete. Shimla and Dharamsala benefit from modernized infrastructure and enhanced mobility solutions. These efforts set benchmarks for eco-sensitive regions.
Jammu & Kashmir also shows resilience amid challenges. The region has utilized Rs 377.09 crore of the Rs 452.25 crore claimed. With 161 projects totaling Rs 3,634.4 crore, 55 projects have been completed. Upgrades in public utilities and transport networks in Srinagar and Jammu exemplify a focus on inclusive urban growth.
Delhi continues to make progress with the Smart City agenda. With Rs 969.97 crore sanctioned, the capital has claimed Rs 343 crore so far. It has successfully completed 120 of 127 sanctioned projects. These initiatives enhance governance, expand public infrastructure, and integrate technology into daily urban life.
