Lindy Garay always knew she wanted to develop software. However, she did not anticipate her work would contribute to human spaceflight. After earning her electrical and software engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin, she embarked on a journey at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Her first job involved creating software for the International Space Station Program’s training facility simulator.
Initially, Garay did not have a background in aerospace. Despite this challenge, she learned from her teammates who had the necessary experience. “Every successful endeavor depends on having a solid team of dedicated people working toward one goal,” she said. This teamwork not only fosters innovation but also enhances communication and flexibility.
Today, Garay works as a training systems software architect. She leads a team that connects training simulations from NASA’s external partners to those run by Johnson’s Mission Training Center (MTC). Currently, the MTC supports training for multiple programs, including the International Space Station, the Commercial Crew Program, and Artemis missions.
