The Impossible PS3 Emulator for Android Now Supports Bluetooth Controllers

The RPCS3-Android emulator recently received a notable update. Now, users can play PlayStation 3 games on their Android devices using Bluetooth controllers. This includes mobile gamepads and Xbox controllers.

Released just a month ago, the emulator surprised many by running PS3 games on smartphones. As it continues in early development, improvements are happening rapidly. The latest alpha version, alpha 6, was shared on the developer’s GitHub page.

This new Bluetooth support expands the options for gamers. Previously, the emulator had limited compatibility with USB-C controllers. Now, players can enjoy a seamless experience with their preferred gaming devices. For example, I tested an Xbox One S controller while playing Afterburner Climax. The buttons mapped perfectly, showcasing impressive development efforts.

In addition to Bluetooth support, the update introduces initial game folder support and enhances the virtual gamepad experience. Fixes for several issues, including a frustrating black screen bug, also rolled out with this update. Last week’s major update added a settings menu, allowing users to adjust resolution, frame rates, and audio settings.

Although the emulator shows promise, potential users should temper their expectations. Running demanding titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 on low-end Android devices may not yet be feasible. Even so, the continued advancements signal exciting times ahead for gaming enthusiasts.

As the RPCS3-Android emulator evolves, gamers eagerly anticipate more features. This update marks a significant step forward in mobile gaming technology, making access to classic games more convenient than ever.
