    Top Highlights

    1. Android’s Instant Hotspot Feature: Android now has a seamless instant hotspot feature, similar to Apple’s Continuity, which enables automatic data sharing between devices without manual setup.

    2. Default Activation: This feature, part of the Cross-device services, is now enabled by default for new Android phone setups, simplifying the user experience.

    3. Seamless Functionality: Users can easily connect their secondary device to the primary phone’s hotspot through a notification, requiring no password or manual connection.

    4. Caveats to Consider: The primary device must have Cross-device services activated, and implementation may depend on the Play Services version, which could limit functionality on some older models.

Android’s Instant Hotspot Feature Now Unveiled

For years, Android users envied Apple’s seamless features, especially the instant hotspot capability. This feature allowed Apple users to share their data effortlessly between devices. Recently, Android joined the game, and the best part? It’s no longer hidden.

Last September, Android introduced this instant hotspot feature in a Play System update. Initially, users had to navigate through several menus to enable it. However, Android has now simplified this process. When setting up a new Android device, the instant hotspot feature is automatically turned on.

During a recent setup of the realme GT 7 Dream Edition, this change became clear. After signing into my Google account, I received a notification on my Pixel 9 Pro XL. It informed me that my new device could share features, such as video calls and internet access.

Testing the feature proved its efficiency. I used the realme phone, which lacked a cellular connection, and needed to access the internet. A notification popped up, prompting me to use my Pixel’s hotspot. I tapped it, and the connection established instantly, without entering any passwords or manual setups. This streamlined process adds convenience for users with multiple devices.

Notably, this feature works seamlessly as long as both devices are connected to the same Google account and are within proximity. Many users will appreciate the simplicity and ease of use that this instant hotspot feature brings.

However, some users may still face challenges. Both devices need to have the Cross-device services enabled, which may require manual intervention in certain cases. Additionally, newer phones shipped with the latest Play Services version are more likely to have this feature enabled by default.

Despite these caveats, the rollout of the instant hotspot feature is a significant advancement for Android users. With this enhancement, Android aims to create a smoother experience, closing the gap with Apple’s ecosystem. As smart cities and urban innovation expand, this kind of technology integration enhances connectivity and convenience for urban dwellers. Exciting times lie ahead for Android users and the broader tech landscape.
