    Quick Takeaways

    1. Deadline Extended: The Karnal Smart City Ltd. deadline has been extended to March 31, 2027, giving more time for project completion and new initiatives.

    2. Project Progress: Out of approximately 120 sanctioned projects, nearly 90 are completed, with 20 in progress and others in the tendering phase.

    3. Financial Commitment: Total estimated project cost is Rs 929.77 crore, funded equally by the Central and state governments, ensuring robust financial backing.

    4. New Developments Ahead: The extension allows for the proposal of additional projects, aiming to enhance urban infrastructure and quality of life in Karnal.

    Deadline Extension Promises Urban Development

In a significant boost to urban development in Karnal, the state government has extended the deadline for Karnal Smart City Ltd. (KSCL) to March 31, 2027. This decision, recommended by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aims to expedite ongoing projects. Initially, the deadline was set for June 30, 2024, then pushed to March 31, 2025. Now, with the new timeline, officials believe they can complete existing works and initiate new projects under the Smart City framework.

Deputy Commissioner and KSCL CEO Uttam Singh confirmed the extension, saying it provides essential breathing room. The fresh timeline allows officials to focus on urban enhancements that align with their vision. The Smart City Mission, launched on June 23, 2017, aims to improve infrastructure and service delivery in Karnal. Currently, nearly 90 out of 120 approved projects have been completed, while around 20 are in progress.

Upcoming Projects to Enhance Quality of Life

The total estimated cost for these Smart City initiatives is Rs 929.77 crore, with equal funding from both the Central and state governments. Among the ongoing projects are two elevated flyovers, a shopping complex at the old grain market, and community centers, including an old-age home. As the deadline extends to 2027, KSCL may propose additional projects to bolster urban infrastructure, enhancing the quality of life for residents.

This extension not only offers a practical timeline for completion but also reflects a commitment to smart and sustainable urban solutions. With this renewed focus, Karnal is on track to become a model for other cities, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
