Vitalik Praises Lean Ethereum Team Progress on Long-Term Scaling Roadmap
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin commended the Lean Ethereum team for their significant advancements this year. He highlighted their efforts to enhance the network’s long-term scaling, decentralization, and resilience. “The Lean Ethereum team has been doing a truly amazing job kicking into gear this year,” Buterin noted on Sunday.
Furthermore, he expects the team’s concepts to align with the short-term scaling milestones. Lean Ethereum focuses on developing a minimal zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM), which aims for efficiency and better integration with Ethereum’s mainnet operations. This initiative promises to deliver cost reductions for large-scale computations while speeding up recursion for ZK-proof computations.
According to the Lean Roadmap, developers are intentionally allowing these improvements to follow immediate scaling solutions. Consequently, everything should seamlessly work together once the current updates go live. The team aims to begin building in 2026, with testing projected for 2027. Their long-term goal remains to complete the roadmap within four to five years, shifting Ethereum into a “maintenance mode.”
As the next major upgrade, “Fusaka” is scheduled for November. This update will improve Ethereum’s efficiency for layer-2 rollups while enhancing the performance of the base layer.
Buterin also emphasized the artistic nature of protocols, advocating for simplicity over clutter. He stated, “Protocols are a work of art. They should look as such.” While critics argue Ethereum has lagged behind competing blockchains, supporters believe that a meticulous approach leads to better stability and reliability.
