    Quick Takeaways

    1. Neglected Information Boards: Residents in R.S. Puram express dissatisfaction over poorly maintained information boards, part of the Coimbatore Corporation’s Smart Cities Mission project.

    2. Phased Installation: Approximately 70 boards were installed to highlight local figures and history, costing ₹12,500 each through a collaboration with private entities.

    3. Functional Issues: Only about 10 boards are fully operational; most are damaged, with faded images and non-working digital panels, detracting from the area’s aesthetic.

    4. Maintenance Accountability: The Corporation’s official assures that they will identify responsible parties for maintenance and undertake necessary actions to address the issue.

Residents Voice Concerns Over Damaged Info Boards

Residents in R.S. Puram, Coimbatore, have expressed disappointment regarding the maintenance of Smart City information boards along D.B. Road. These boards, part of the Smart Cities Mission, were installed to honor local figures and enhance community pride. However, many boards show signs of neglect. Currently, only about 10 out of 70 boards remain fully functional.

    S. Krishnaraj, a local resident, commented on the situation, stating, “If this is a model road under the Smart Cities Mission, it should be maintained properly.” Residents argue that the damaged boards detract from the city’s aesthetic, which undermines the initiative’s goals.

    Officials Promise Action and Improvement

In response to community concerns, a senior official from the Coimbatore Corporation has promised to address the issue. The Department plans to identify responsible parties and ensure proper maintenance. This commitment offers hope to those frustrated by the deteriorating condition of the boards.

Myvizhi, another resident, noted the impact of the boards’ disrepair on community pride. She pointed out that “Many boards have faded images, broken digital panels, and rusting frames covered in dust.” Addressing these issues could reinvigorate the Smart Cities initiative and improve the overall quality of life in R.S. Puram.
