This method reduces friction along faults, which facilitates controlled quakes, instead of waiting for natural occurrences. The Alps, with their dense networks of faults, provide an ideal testing ground. By using thousands of monitors, the researchers gather real-time data on fault movements. Soon, they will experiment with hot water to explore temperature effects on quakes. Ultimately, understanding these parameters could allow scientists to anticipate significant quakes, improving safety for communities near fault lines.
