    Starting November 5, players can access a new turn-based mode in a public beta on PC. This mode slows down the game’s traditional “real-time with pause” combat. It builds upon the optional turn-based system introduced in Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire, the 2018 sequel.

    Game Director Josh Sawyer explained the thinking behind this update in a newly released trailer. Essentially, the new mode aims to adapt character stats for turn-based play. Importantly, players can switch seamlessly between real-time and turn-based modes, enhancing gameplay flexibility.

    Obsidian’s recent return to Eora, with the first-person RPG Avowed, shows the studio’s commitment to its rich narrative universe. The team is also working on Grounded 2, which is currently in early access.

    This surprise update promises to breathe new life into a beloved title while offering fans the chance to experience combat in a fresh way. With player feedback, Obsidian hopes to refine this feature before its official release.
