Steam and Valve’s Online Games Partially Down Amid Outage

Steam experienced a significant outage starting around 1 PM ET on December 24. Users faced difficulties accessing the game store and playing online games. Although Valve did not publicly acknowledge the issue, SteamDB’s unofficial status page reported disruptions to the Steam Store, Steam Community, and Steam Web APIs.

Shortly after the outage began, DownDetector received over 6,000 reports around 1:15 PM ET. The problems also impacted Valve’s mobile apps. Notably, popular games like Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, and Counterstrike 2 experienced reduced functionality.

By around 4 PM ET, signs of recovery began to emerge. As of 6 PM ET, the platform largely bounced back, with most PC, mobile, and Mac clients operational. However, some users still reported occasional errors and sluggish service. SteamDB indicated that many of Valve’s online games remained partially down.

This incident marks the second major outage for Steam in recent months. In October, the platform faced similar issues for an hour, while a previous event in September involved store outages linked to the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Users remain hopeful as Steam continues to stabilize, demonstrating resilience in the face of technical challenges.
