    Summary Points

    1. Mercedes unveiled the AMG GT 4-door coupe, a high-performance EV sedan.
    2. It features three ultra-light axial flux motors, delivering 1,153 horsepower.
    3. The innovative cooling system manages heat with advanced non-conductive oil.
    4. Pricing is yet to be announced, with models launching in late 2026.

The Dawn of Ultra-High Performance EVs

The era of ultra-high performance Mercedes EVs is here. The company has unveiled the AMG GT 4-door coupe, a super sedan that showcases groundbreaking technology. This vehicle, inspired by the legendary XX concept, made headlines by covering 24,901 miles in under eight days. Mercedes rethought its approach to motors and batteries to ensure that this electric powerhouse could compete with hypercars. It features three axial flux motors, developed by the subsidiary YASA. Together, they deliver up to 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.

Mercedes claims it is the first automaker to use these disk-shaped motors. Their lightweight design allows for immense power without the bulk of traditional radial motors. This innovation positions the AMG GT as a serious contender on the track. The high-performance battery also stands out. Mercedes uses tall, cylindrical cells that are just one inch wide. This design enhances heat dissipation, ensuring that the battery stays cool even during intense driving.

Mercedes did not stop at performance. The cooling system is a marvel, inspired by Formula 1 technology. It uses a special, non-conductive oil that flows around each cell for direct cooling. This setup provides about four times the cooling capacity of a standard battery. Mercedes promises that enthusiasts can drag race the AMG GT repeatedly without the threat of overheating.

A Fusion of Power and Technology

The electric AMG GT also supports fast charging thanks to its 800-volt architecture. Charging from 10% to 80% takes only 11 minutes at a whopping 600 kW. This efficiency counters a common criticism of electric vehicles—range anxiety. With its advanced nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum cathode and a silicon-based anode, the AMG GT achieves an impressive energy density of over 298 Wh-per-kilogram. It can even switch between 800V and 400V as needed, supporting five global DC charging standards.

Despite its silent electric motors, Mercedes acknowledges the importance of sound for driving enthusiasts. The AMG GT features over 1,600 sound files replicating the engine notes and exhaust burbles of the iconic AMG GT R. This adds an auditory layer that enhances the driving experience, making it feel less alien and more familiar.

Inside the cabin, Mercedes opts for a centralized control system, dubbed the AMG Race Engineer Core, powered by its MB.OS operating system. This master chip manages everything from driving dynamics to battery cooling, streamlining the vehicle’s performance. The interior boasts three screens under a continuous glass surface, offering a seamless digital experience. Drivers can monitor vital metrics such as aero performance, heat, and energy usage in real-time.

While the pricing details remain under wraps, the GT 55 version is set to arrive in late 2026, followed by the GT 63 in early 2027. As we enter this thrilling new chapter of electric vehicles, the AMG GT 4-door coupe positions itself as a powerful statement in the world of performance and luxury.
