    1. Spotify’s new Running Mode curates playlists based on your running pace.
    2. Users can customize workouts with various formats and preferred music genres.
    3. The feature builds on previous technology, focusing on personalized music selections.
    4. Currently available for Premium users on iOS, with no broader rollout announced.

    ### A New Era for Workout Playlists

Nothing disrupts a runner’s rhythm like a slow song. Spotify’s new Running Mode addresses this frustration by tailoring music to match your workout from the first step to the last cooldown. This feature lets users create personalized playlists that align perfectly with their pace and fitness goals. It combines your favorite tracks with optimal tempo to keep you motivated, ensuring that each song enhances your running experience.

With 25 curated presets available, users can customize their sessions based on workout type, duration, genre, and beats per minute. From steady runs to interval training, Spotify caters to various fitness regimens. The addition of English-language audio prompts delivers motivational messages without breaking the flow of the music. This focus on customization sets Spotify apart, shifting from generic playlists to a more tailored approach.

    ### Bridging the Gap Between Music and Fitness

Spotify builds on its Prompted Playlist technology, which analyzes listening history and user preferences to create highly specific playlists. Fitness-focused playlists have ranked among the platform’s most popular features. For instance, a user could select a 30-minute 5K playlist that starts with an upbeat tempo and transitions into slower tracks for cooldown.

This isn’t Spotify’s first attempt at syncing music with running. An earlier feature from over a decade ago used phone sensors to match songs to a runner’s pace but was phased out in 2018. Running Mode refines this concept by allowing users to define their workout goals in advance rather than relying on real-time adjustments.

While Running Mode does not track metrics like distance or GPS routes, it fills a gap for those looking to enhance the enjoyment of their runs. Currently available only to Premium users on iOS in select countries, the feature could expand to Android and broader international audiences in the future. Its practicality hinges on users’ desire for a seamless blend of music and exercise, making it a noteworthy evolution in fitness technology.
