BitMine Seeks Major Share Authorization Hike for Ethereum-Led Growth
BitMine Immersion Technologies is pushing for a substantial increase in its authorized shares. The company’s leadership, led by Chairman Tom Lee, aims to help BitMine adapt to future market conditions. Specifically, they wish to raise the authorized common stock from 500 million shares to 50 billion shares. A shareholder vote is set for January 14.
Lee emphasized that this proposal does not indicate an immediate increase in shares. Instead, it aims to enhance flexibility for future capital raises and potential mergers. He also highlighted the importance of accommodating stock splits. “Any time a company splits shares, total authorized needs to be high enough to accommodate,” he stated.
This strategic shift aligns with BitMine’s focus on Ethereum as its main treasury asset. Recently, the company invested $97.6 million in Ethereum, acquiring over 32,938 ETH. Now, BitMine holds approximately 4.07 million ETH, valued at around $12 billion. Lee noted that the company’s stock price trends closely with Ethereum’s fluctuations.
Lee remains optimistic about Ethereum’s future. He referred to statements from industry leaders, such as BlackRock’s Larry Fink, suggesting that a significant amount of tokenization activities will take place on the Ethereum network. Projections indicate that Ethereum’s price could soar to levels as high as $250,000. In response, BitMine’s stock price could potentially reach $500, $1,500, or even $5,000.
To keep shares affordable for retail investors, Lee plans to execute stock splits. This would reset share prices closer to $25, substantially increasing the number of shares outstanding. Such a move necessitates the proposed boost in authorized shares.
Despite Ethereum facing challenges in 2025, Lee and BitMine view the current market downturn as an opportunity. Recent data indicates that Ethereum experienced nine monthly losses, marking its worst year since 2018. Yet, with the asset currently trading above $3,000, BitMine prepares for a rebound driven by Ethereum’s evolving role in finance.
BitMine’s ambitions highlight the currency’s unique potential to solve real-world financial challenges, showcasing its importance in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
