Li-Fi Technology Makes Waves at MWC, Promises Enhanced Broadband Access
BARCELONA — At the 2025 Mobile World Congress, pureLiFi and Solace Power unveiled the LINXC Bridge System, a groundbreaking solution for broadband providers. This innovation uses Li-Fi technology, which transmits data through light signals, promising to increase internet access speed and efficiency.
The LINXC Bridge features both indoor and outdoor units that attach to a window. The outdoor unit receives cellular or satellite signals and relays them indoors via Li-Fi. This setup allows the indoor unit to broadcast data to a home Wi-Fi router. Consequently, internet service providers can simplify broadband deployments.
With potential download speeds reaching up to 5,000 megabits per second and lower latency than traditional Wi-Fi, this technology could revolutionize home internet access. Alistair Banham, CEO of pureLiFi, emphasized the system’s game-changing capabilities for fixed wireless access (FWA) globally. "This latest technology is poised to make high-speed connectivity more accessible and affordable," he said.
Currently in trial, the LINXC Bridge will first roll out in the United States. Many rural areas struggle with internet connectivity, and this technology could provide a timely solution to bridge the digital divide. T-Mobile recently reported over 1 million users waiting for 5G home internet service, highlighting the demand for high-capacity solutions.
Moreover, the LINXC Bridge offers a cost-effective installation process. Users can set it up in as little as five minutes without needing extensive wiring or drilling. The energy-efficient Li-Fi technology operates using LED light bulbs, reducing overall costs for broadband companies and consumers alike.
While promising, Li-Fi does have limitations, primarily its restricted range. Users must be within the light’s coverage to maintain a stable connection. However, the advantages it presents could reshape broadband access, especially in underserved communities.
As smart cities continue to evolve, investments in technologies like the LINXC Bridge will enhance quality of life and promote urban innovation. High-speed internet can lead to better health services, improved education, and overall economic growth. The bright future of Li-Fi technology appears to be just around the corner.
