Meet Mori, the Cute Robot Mushroom That Says Nothing

    Summary Points

    1. Meet Mori: A nearly 12-inch mushroom-shaped robot lamp that perks up and follows you around with animated eyes.
    2. A calmer home: It plays nature sounds, glows with nature-inspired colors, and can guide breathing exercises.
    3. A playful companion: Mori reacts to music, TV, and your movements—but uses a camera and microphones to do so.
    4. Not another smart speaker: It can’t control devices or answer everyday questions; it’s the first experimental “Artifact” from startup OKA.

    A Lamp That Notices You

After a long day, a small reaction can feel welcome. Mori, a nearly 12-inch-tall robot lamp, lifts its head when its microphone detects you. Its animated eyes appear, and it wiggles. A camera sits in its diamond-shaped nose.

As you move around, Mori follows you with its gaze and makes soft, electronic sounds. Touch its head, and it tucks its face away and plays nature sounds. It can also glow in colors inspired by rain, forests, fire and wind, guide a breathing exercise, and dance to music or react to a TV show.

    Companion, Not Assistant

OKA, the startup behind Mori, presents the device as a way to reconnect people with nature and their surroundings. Still, Mori does not work like a typical voice assistant. It cannot control smart lights, play a requested song or answer questions about the weather.

That limited role appears intentional. Mori offers small gestures and soothing sounds, not answers or household help. For some owners, that restraint may feel calming. For others, it may make the device seem more like a novelty than a useful robot.

    Charm Meets Practical Questions

Mori may appeal to people who want a playful presence at home without another screen or stream of alerts. Its lamp function and ambient sounds also give it uses beyond interaction.

However, buyers should consider its limits. The camera and microphones enable Mori’s reactions, but they also make privacy worth asking about. Before adopting a home device like this, people may want clear details about when its sensors operate and how it handles data.
