Mobile World Congress, better known as MWC, is an annual tradeshow in Barcelona. This event gathers major players in mobile technology to unveil devices, announce services, and make deals. While MWC has shifted from being the central hub for smartphone announcements, it still showcases notable reveals and innovative concepts.
This year, the spotlight shone brightly on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which emerged as a standout device. WIRED rated it 8 out of 10, highlighting its impressive features. The device boasts a stunning display, solid battery life, and rapid charging capabilities. Users can expect smooth performance thanks to Xiaomi’s developing HyperOS, now infused with AI enhancements. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will not be available in the United States. However, fans in the UK and Europe can buy the Ultra for £1,299 (1,499 euros), with the standard Xiaomi 15 starting at £849 (999 euros).
In addition to its flagship phones, Xiaomi introduced a variety of other devices. The new Xiaomi Pad 7 and 7 Pro feature 11.2-inch screens and long-lasting batteries. The Pro version includes a faster processor and superior camera. Xiaomi also unveiled the Buds 5 Pro, equipped with active noise cancelation, an impressive 8-hour battery life, and support for AI transcription and translation. The Xiaomi Watch S4 and Smart Band 9 Pro also caught attention, with upgraded health and fitness features.
Another exciting entry came from Nothing. The company launched two budget smartphones: the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro. These devices are nearly identical, but the Pro model features a more advanced camera system. It comes with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 3X optical periscope lens. In contrast, the standard Phone (3a) includes a 2X optical camera. Priced at $379 and $459 respectively, both models offer a versatile triple-camera setup, pushing the boundaries of affordable smartphones.
