    Quick Takeaways

    1. Voice Typing Activation: Samsung Galaxy users can activate voice typing by pressing and holding the power button while the Samsung Keyboard is open, adding convenience for those who find the voice typing icon hard to reach.

    2. Feature Availability: This power button shortcut for voice typing is available on both new and older Samsung devices, as confirmed by user reports and investigations into the Samsung Keyboard app.

    3. Setting Changes Required: To use this feature, users must change the power button’s behavior to "Wake Bixby," which means the power button will no longer function as a traditional power button.

    4. Offline Functionality & Comparison: Both Samsung and Google voice typing support offline usage after downloading language packs; however, releasing the power button does not stop Google’s voice input, which distinguishes it from Samsung’s feature.

Samsung Galaxy: A Handy Voice Typing Shortcut

In a fresh development for Samsung Galaxy users, activating voice typing through the power button is now possible. This feature enhances convenience, especially if you find the traditional voice typing icon hard to reach.

To activate voice typing, simply press and hold the power button when the Samsung Keyboard is open. You’ll know it’s working when the voice typing icon lights up at the bottom of the screen. This functionality isn’t brand new; it has circulated on Reddit and exists on older Samsung models too.

While the feature is beneficial, users must change the power button settings to make it work. Navigate to Settings > Advanced Features > Side Button, and select “Wake Bixby.” This change means you won’t use the power button strictly for its original function anymore.

Despite this minor trade-off, the feature offers a more tactile experience, making it easier to engage voice typing. Moreover, whether you’re using Samsung’s voice input or switching to Google Voice Typing, the power button remains functional.

Both options support offline dictation after downloading the necessary language packs. However, Google’s method has a small drawback: you can’t stop dictation by releasing the power button, which requires you to tap the screen instead.

In comparison, other platforms like Gboard on Google Pixel phones do not currently support this power button activation. Hence, Samsung’s innovation stands out, providing users with another reason to enjoy their Galaxy devices.

For those who frequently type on their smartphones, this enhancement could be a game-changer. It shows how even a small feature can pave the way for a more efficient mobile experience.
