    Fast Facts

    1. New Qi2 25W Standard: The latest Qi2 wireless standard introduces an improved 25W charging speed, significantly enhancing power delivery by 66% compared to the previous Qi2 platform.

    2. Wider Adoption Potential: While newer iPhones already support Qi2, Qi2 25W offers a breakthrough opportunity for many Android phones to adopt this efficient wireless charging standard.

    3. Certification Expansion: The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has begun certifying various devices, including power banks and chargers, for Qi2 25W, signaling broad industry interest.

    4. Future Certainty: With hundreds of devices awaiting testing, the upcoming rollout of Qi2 25W is poised to accelerate wireless charging adoption across multiple product categories.

Qi2 25W Wireless Charging Boosts iPhones and Major Android Smartphones

A significant update is on the way for smartphone users. The Qi2 wireless charging standard is evolving, and it’s set to improve the charging experience for both iPhones and many major Android smartphones.

Named Qi2 25W, this new standard delivers up to 25 watts of power. That marks a 66 percent jump from previous versions. Paul Struhsaker, Executive Director of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), highlighted this advancement, stating that this efficient charging will likely drive broader adoption of wireless technology.

Many newer iPhones already support the Qi2 standard, making the shift to Qi2 25W an expected yet exciting development. However, most Android devices haven’t included Qi2 certification before now. Thus, this change represents a potential game-changer for Android users.

Previously, integrating Qi2 charging on Android devices required specialized magnetic cases. With Qi2 25W, users may now enjoy greater accessibility to wireless charging options without needing extra accessories.

Moreover, the introduction of Qi2 25W extends beyond smartphones. Earlier this month, various accessories, including power banks and chargers, received certification. The WPC revealed that hundreds of devices are awaiting testing and certification, suggesting substantial growth for this technology.

Overall, the rollout of Qi2 25W promises to enhance convenience for smartphone users. As more devices embrace this standard, the possibility for a more connected and innovative urban experience increases, shaping the future of technology in smart cities.
