These engines are key parts of the Space Launch System (SLS) — NASA’s next-generation heavy-lift rocket. The engines will be integrated with the Artemis III core stage, completing the assembly before launch.

    The RS-25 engines are historically significant. They powered NASA’s space shuttles and have now been adapted for the SLS. Each engine produces more than 550,000 pounds of thrust, helping the rocket reach orbit. During Artemis III, four of these engines will work together to generate over two million pounds of thrust at liftoff.
