Semtech Unveils New ESD Protection for Automotive Ethernet

Camarillo, Calif. — Semtech Corporation has launched the RClamp10022PWQ, a two-line transient voltage suppressor designed for automotive Ethernet. This new device enhances protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) in complex vehicular networks.

First and foremost, the RClamp10022PWQ complies with Open Alliance specifications for 10BASE-T1S, 100BASE-T1, and 1000BASE-T1 interfaces. This compliance ensures that it meets the evolving needs of automotive manufacturers standardizing on Ethernet technology.

Moreover, the device provides robust ESD protection, boasting an impressive ±15kV contact and ±25kV air discharge protection per IEC 61000-4-2. This exceeds current automotive requirements and safeguards high-speed data transmission effectively.

Additionally, with an ultra-low capacitance of 0.6pF maximum, the RClamp10022PWQ maintains signal integrity in networks operating up to 10Gbps. Eric Wentzel, Semtech’s product marketing director, emphasized the necessity of reliable data transmission as automotive networks integrate advanced technologies like advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment systems.

"Reliable high-speed data transmission becomes critical," Wentzel stated. He added that the new ESD protection “addresses this need” without hindering performance across various Ethernet speeds.

The RClamp10022PWQ also features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, making it suitable for harsh automotive environments. Its flow-through package design simplifies printed circuit board layouts, while side-wettable flanks allow for automated optical inspections.

Semtech will showcase the RClamp10022PWQ at the Automotive Ethernet Congress in Munich from February 18 to 20, 2025. Attendees can visit Semtech’s stand in hall D-06 to learn more about their product offerings and discuss industry advancements.
