    Essential Insights

    1. End of Support: Beat Games has announced it will cease updates for Beat Saber on PS VR and PS VR2, with the last song released being Lady Gaga’s "Abracadabra," and multiplayer features will be discontinued on January 21, 2024.

    2. Future Focus: The company plans to continue developing new content for Beat Saber on Steam and Meta Quest platforms, indicating a shift away from PlayStation due to lower investment returns.

    3. Market Dynamics: Meta’s acquisition of Beat Games and the sales disparity between Meta Quest and PS VR2 headsets suggest strategic reasons behind the decision to stop support for Beat Saber on PlayStation.

    4. PC Advantage: PS VR2 owners seeking a robust Beat Saber experience are encouraged to consider the PC version, which offers modding capabilities and access to a larger library of custom songs.

Beat Saber Support Ends for PS VR and PS VR2

Beat Saber enthusiasts have received some disappointing news. Beat Games announced the end of support for Beat Saber on PS VR and PS VR2 platforms. While players can still purchase and enjoy the base game and previously released song packs, no new content will arrive.

The last piece of music to grace these consoles was Lady Gaga’s "Abracadabra." However, support won’t stop there. Players can still expect customer service, ensuring that help remains available.

Starting January 21, 2024, multiplayer features will disappear from the PS VR versions of the game. Beat Games stated that they are shifting focus to enhance Beat Saber for platforms like Steam and Meta Quest, where they see more potential for growth. Notably, Meta acquired Beat Games in 2019, aligning their efforts with their headsets.

This decision may stem from declining returns on investment for the PlayStation versions. Indeed, Meta Quest headsets have outsold PS VR2 units significantly. Sony’s limited support for the platform—with fewer than two dozen exclusive titles—likely contributed to this shift.

Despite the frustration for PS VR2 users, there’s a silver lining. Those with a capable PC can still access custom content by playing through Steam, where modding is supported. This avenue opens up a wealth of new songs and experiences.

Beat Saber continues to thrive as a leading VR game. While the PlayStation journey may be ending, the future looks bright on other platforms. Fans remain hopeful for what lies ahead as Beat Games explores new possibilities.
