These thresholds are based on actual data, not just words. When an LLM tries to replace this with probabilistic language, it creates uncertainty. Instead of definitive answers, the model offers vague interpretations. This can cause problems in real-world applications where stability and explainability are vital. Decisions need to be based on solid, measurable limits, not guesswork or probabilistic phrasing.

    A Better Approach: Combining Data and Language

    A practical solution is to separate the data assessment from the language explanation. First, use deterministic code to compare forecast data and check if thresholds are crossed. Only then, when a real change occurs, invoke the LLM to generate a clear explanation. This approach ensures decisions are reliable and explainable. It reduces costs by calling the LLM only when needed. This hybrid method balances the accuracy of measurements with the flexibility of natural language. It shows that, when it comes to weather, models should focus on structured analysis and use language models for communication, not decision-making.
