    Quick Takeaways

    1. Launch of PBH: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s digital identity project, World, launches "Priority Blockspace for Humans" (PBH) on World Chain to prioritize transactions from verified human users, departing from traditional gas fee mechanisms.

    2. Automatic Activation: PBH activates during network congestion by reserving block space for Orb-verified transactions, ensuring quicker access to essential services like proof-of-human verifications without extra costs.

    3. Focus on Developers: The initiative supports developers in building applications for a network of 13 million verified users, aiming to create a global ecosystem of over one billion authenticated individuals.

    4. Regulatory Challenges: Despite its US expansion amid favorable regulatory conditions, World faces privacy scrutiny globally, with some countries suspending the project over concerns about biometric data collection.

World Chain Launches Priority Blockspace for Humans to Support 13M Verified Users

World, the digital identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, recently introduced “Priority Blockspace for Humans” (PBH) on its World Chain mainnet. This innovative feature aims to prioritize transactions from verified human users, moving away from the traditional gas fee bidding system.

According to a press release, PBH activates during times of heavy network usage. It reserves segments of each blockchain block specifically for individuals verified by Orbs. As a result, this process ensures quicker access to essential services like proof-of-human verifications and grant claims, without any added costs.

Additionally, this initiative seeks to assist developers in building applications for a growing network of 13 million verified users. World aims to expand this global network to over one billion authenticated individuals.

Steven Smith, vice president of Engineering and Protocol at Tools for Humanity, emphasized the fairness PBH brings to World Chain. He stated that it grants “real human transactions built-in priority during block production.” He noted the project’s vision of a harmonious coexistence between humans and AI. This development reflects a commitment to user-friendly systems that take full advantage of advanced technology.

Moreover, PBH underwent extensive testing in an incentivized testnet, involving researchers and developers from Flashbots and Alchemy. The open-source system integrates with the World Chain Block Builder and Rollup Boost, which supports custom transaction ordering. Independent audits from blockchain firm Nethermind validated both PBH and Rollup Boost.

World made its official U.S. debut in April, launching in cities like Atlanta, Austin, and Los Angeles. Previously, the company hesitated to enter the U.S. market due to regulatory concerns regarding token distribution. However, recent changes in the regulatory environment seem to have cleared a path for expansion.

Despite this progress, World faces scrutiny over its data collection practices. Authorities in countries such as Spain and Portugal have suspended the project due to privacy issues linked to biometric data usage.

As technology continues to evolve, World Chain’s PBH feature marks a significant development in prioritizing verified human transactions. This focus on efficiency and reliability could pave the way for more user-centric applications in the blockchain space.
